We do hope that this page will help those Old Salopians determined to do something for very worthy causes.

Mount Kilimanjaro 19,341 feet

In July this year, Chris Conway and his daughter Anna will attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It is hoped that the combination of youth and experience will be able to raise money for 2 worthy causes which have Salopian connections:

Any donations should be sent to Chris Conway at 58, Trinity Street, Belle Vue, Shrewsbury, SY3 7PQ

·

To help Dave Reid - former caretaker of Shrewsbury House Youth Club, Everton, who fell and broke his neck at the age of 54 and is now paralysed below the waist with a little movement in his arms and shoulders and is wheelchair bound

·

To pay the salary of a teacher at the Sanata Charitable Trust (www.sanchat.org) which attempts to rehabilitate abandoned or orphaned street children in Gilgil, Kenya, and give them an education. The UK Chair of Sanata is Ted Maidment

Mid Shropshire Events Committee have been hosting a charity ball at The Schools for the last 6 years, they have all so far been in aid of Hope House.  The balls have forged a reputation as one of the premier balls in  the area and are growing year on year. Following the horrific incident a couple of years ago involving Chris Hope's (O 85-90) family we have decided this year to support the charity with which the Hope's are involved, The Limbless Association. The Hopes have already raised over £100,000.00 for this very worthwhile charity. In the link below Chris ( who is an editor at The Telegraph) tells his family's tragic story in his own words. The Shrewsbury Summer Ball is on saturday July 3rd at 7pm, tickets are £55/head to include canapes, a Champagne reception, gourmet meal, charity auction, live band and disco. Numbers are limited to 500.

Re the report below THE EAGLE HAS LANDED (Porpoise beached?), see web site.

In December 2009 Matthew Mackaness & Charlie Marlow will attempt to row across the Atlantic Ocean.

We aim to travel west from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to benefit from the prevailing winds and seas before landing on Antigua, West Indies in January 2010.

We are friends from school and want to challenge ourselves both mentally and physically by taking part in this once in a lifetime project. A sucessful crossing is something we are both determined to achieve and are hugely excited about.

We aim to raise £50,000 for our chosen charities Brain Tumour UK and Shrewsbury House. Please click on the link for information on charitable donations. To make your donations quickly and safely online, please click on the following links:
