New Boats for the RSSBC

A number of generous Sabrina members and parents of boys in the school at present have raised a significant sum of money for the purchase of the best equipment for the RSSBC. Two Empacher eights have been given to the boat club and have contributed to recent successes (see below).

RSSBC Supporters Group

We have recently formed an RSSBC Supporters Group. Any friends of the RSSBC may join whether members of the Sabrina Club or not; parents of members of the RSSBC, past or present, are particularly welcome.

After the recent successes we hope to raise more money to maintain and improve the high standard of equipment in the club -

In the last five years (2005 - 2009) the 1st VIII and the 2nd VIII have both won the Schools' Head of the River Race three times and come second twice. The J15 A and B crews both won their events this year (2009).

In 2008 both the 1st VIII and the 2nd VIII won their events at the (re-arranged) National Schools' Regatta
In 2007 the 1st and 2nd VIIIs came 2nd and 1st at the N.S.R. and in 2006 they came 1st and 2nd.

The 1st VIII won the Princess Elizabeth Cup at Henley in 2007. In 2006 the 1st VIII lost to the American National Champions in the final, and in 2008 the 1st VIII lost to Shawnigan Lake School, Canada (the eventual winners) in the semi-final.

This is an outstanding record by any standards.

The aim of the supporters group is to augment the generous provision from the school to help maintain the high standard of equipment and training. The school does provide a substantial sum annually but in order to maintain the highest standard of equipment the R.S.S.B.C. does rely on generous donations from Sabrina members and supporters - empacher eights do not come cheap! and the junior crewws must also race in good boats.

Supporters will enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that they are encouraging boys at Shrewsbury to compete at the top level nationally and internationally as well as supporting the junior members of the RSSBC.

Supporters will also be entitled to use the Sabrina Room at the Leander Club in Henley, will receive notification of Sabrina events, in particular the Henley drinks party. Supporters will be entitled to wear the Sabrina Badge.

The supporters donations have now increased to around £800 a year in additiion to the donations towards the new boats mentioned above.

Any member who would like to join the RSSBC supporters club should fill in a banker's order, click here, or contact the Captain, Nick Randall - nick@ruthinsim.co.uk or telephone (day time) 01824 707 953.
